Deepak Chahar is replaced by Washington Sundar for India’s ODI series against South Africa. Chahar had a back stiffness issue in the final T20I against the Proteas and also did not feature in the first ODI at Lucknow. Chahar is set to return to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further medical advice. The Indian swing bowler’s availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup will be decided after monitoring his progress at the NCA.
Jasprit Bumrah sidelined for the T20 World Cup
The Indian cricket team’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 plans have suffered a major setback as Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the marquee event. According to the latest reports, Bumrah will undergo scans in Bengaluru to access the extent of his back injury. The pacer was also ruled out of the T20I series against South Africa.
Bumrah also missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury. He recovered fit in time for the recently concluded T20I series against Australia, which India won 2-1. Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj are the two potential replacements for Jasprit Bumrah.
Jonny Bairstow ruled out of the T20 World Cup
England’s wicketkeeper batter Jonny Bairstow suffered an unusual injury while playing golf at Pannal Golf Club on September 2, 2022, and is ruled out of the third Test against South Africa. ECB have stated that Bairstow’s lower limb issue will also deny him a chance to feature in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
“Unfortunately I am going to be unavailable for games/tours in the immediate future. The reason being is that I have injured my lower leg in a freak accident and it shall need an operation,” said Bairstow on Instagram after the ECB statement.
India’s Ravindra Jadeja to miss the T20 World Cup
Ravindra Jadeja, who played twice for the Indian cricket team in the Asia Cup 2022, will miss the rest of the tournament due to a right knee injury. Jadeja will need major surgery and is expected to be ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
India have named Axar Patel, one of the standby players, as the replacement for Jadeja for the rest of the Asia Cup 2022.
