Australia face West Indies in the second T20I on Friday, October 7, 2022, at The Gabba in Brisbane. The match will start at 1:40 PM IST (Indian Standard Time).

The Australian cricket team beat West Indies by three wickets in the first T20I at Metricon Stadium in Carrara. Put into bat first, the Windies posted 145 runs in their 20 overs thanks to a solid 39-run knock by Kyle Mayers and a quickfire 17-ball 27 from Odean Smith. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers for the Aussies as he finished with figures of 3 for 35 in his four overs.

Aaron Finch anchored the Australian chase with a gritty 53-ball 58 after the hosts were left reeling at 58 for 5 at one point. Along with Finch, Mathew Wade scored an unbeaten 39 off just 29 balls to help his side chase the target with just one ball to spare. For the Windies, Alzarri Joseph and Sheldon Cottrell picked two wickets each.

Despite a win, the middle-order will still be a concern for Australia going into the second game of the series. The Aussies are currently fifth in the ICC Men’s T20I team rankings while West Indies are sixth.

Australia’s top picks and players to watch out for 2nd T20I vs West indies

Aaron Finch: The Australian captain scored a match-winning 58 in the first game and will once again be expected to score big in the second game. Finch also played a couple of good knocks against India in the recently concluded T20I series. The right-handed batter is just 27 runs short of becoming the first Australian batter to score 3000 runs in T20Is.

David Warner: The southpaw has amassed 2698 runs for Australia in this format at an average of 33.30 and a strike rate of 141.18. On his return from injury, Warner got himself a quick start in the first game with a 14-run cameo but could not carry on. With the T20 World Cup starting later this month, this will be a great opportunity for the 35-year-old to get some runs under his belt.

West Indies top picks and players to watch out for 2nd T20I vs Australia

Kyle Mayers: The left-handed batter scored an important 36-ball 39 in the last game to help his side reach a decent total. Mayers has amassed 368 runs for the Windies in 17 T20Is at a strike rate of 130.96 and will once again be expected to give the Windies a good start.

Nicholas Pooran: The 27-year-old is one of the most experienced batters in the West Indian setup having scored 14000 runs in 68 T20Is. Pooran has a strike rate of 130.35 and a top score of 74 not out in this format. With Shimron Hetmyer out of the West Indian squad, Pooran will be the most important batter if the Men in Maroon are to save the series.
