Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has tested positive for COVID 19 and is in quarantine. As a result, he will miss the flight to the United Kingdom where India are to play a one-off Test match vs England.

Ashwin is now quarantined and will only be allowed to rejoin the squad if all protocol requirements have been met. On June 16, the Indian squad flew to the United Kingdom.

“Ashwin hasn’t travelled with the squad to UK as he has tested positive for Covid 19 before departure. But we are hopeful that he will recover well in time before the Test match starts on July 1,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“However he might miss the practice game against Leicestershire,” the source added.

Indian team arrives in Leicester for England Tour

The rest of the team has arrived in Leicester and has begun working with bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and batting coach Vikram Rathour. The Test team will then face England in Birmingham for the last match of the five-match Test series that ended abruptly in 2021, with India ahead 2-1. Following the Edgbaston Test, India and England will play three ODIs and three T20Is against each other.

Meanwhile, a second Indian team is also in the UK to play two T20Is versus Ireland, led by Hardik Pandya and coached by VVS Laxman.
